Brass French Notary sign

This beautiful Notary sign or Panonceau is the traditional, historical sign mounted outside every French ‘étude notariale’ – notary office. It features the effigy of the French Republic (often a representation of Marianne or symbols of liberty and justice) and it acts as the official public signifier that the building houses a state-appointed public officer authorized to draft authentic deeds. This sign is in excellent condition and not ‘weathered’ at all, so I suspect it was inside or in the entrance hall of the office. Size as follows: 37 x h 43cm and it weighs 690 grms.
