Delft Ginger Jar with lid H 33cm

This beautiful Jar is made by Royal Delft in the Netherlands and signed on the bottom as such by its maker. The jar is beautifully decorated by hand all around in very vivid colours. These jars were called Ginger jars. Delft Ginger jars were used primarily as decorative display items and symbols of wealth, imitating imported Chinese porcelain. They showcased high social standing and wealth during the European craze for Asian-inspired Chinoiserie decor. European collectors started displaying Ginger jars as symbols of wealth, luxury and sophistication.
